Townies Release Their Debut Album “Of This I Am Certain”

Feel free to mark this as a contender for your “Album Of The Year” lists right away. The debut album “Of This I Am Certain” by LA-based group Townies marks just the start of their musical journey. Joining the esteemed roster of We’re Trying Records, this album offers a promising glimpse into the future of both the genre and the band.

The first track, “Gallows,” embodies everything an opening track should be: stellar riffs, powerful vocals, and an irresistible allure that leaves you craving more. It’s the kind of song that begs to be experienced live, anticipating the electrifying reactions from the crowd as they sing along and dance. After a two-year hiatus of releasing new music, this track serves as a robust reintroduction, setting a strong tone for the rest of the album.

The album carries distinct East Coast influences, a nod to the band’s origins in Boston (with members hailing from New Hampshire, as noted on their Spotify). Track 2, “Phillip, Burn The Piano,” embraces these influences even more noticeably, albeit at a slightly slower pace, allowing them to shine through.

“Auzzy’s Song” captures that nostalgic late 90s/early 2000s vibe we’ve longed for. While many have attempted to recreate this sound, few have succeeded like Townies. “Medicine,” the first single from the album, was released on March 8th. It is an absolute jam that leads into the final stretch of songs of the album. This was a lot of folk’s introductions to Townies and made this a highly anticipated album by many.

Closing out the album is track #10, “Flip Lunar.” It begins with a mellower tempo, but when the chorus hits, it transforms into the ultimate sing-along anthem. If you’re not already convinced of this group’s talent, you’re overlooking the future of music.
